We’re excited to welcome master ceramic artist Steve Williams to our Blue Mountains studio for a relaxed and inspiring two-day masterclass on 30–31 May. This is a special chance to learn from an internationally respected maker in an intimate, friendly studio setting — surrounded by fresh mountain air and good creative vibes.
Steve’s work balances form and function with a playful, story-led approach to making. Over two hands-on days, he’ll guide you through functional hand-building techniques, using the humble mug as a starting point for something much richer. Together, you’ll explore how everyday objects can hold joy, balance, touch and quiet beauty.
You’ll learn to cut, stretch and alter clay by hand, working slowly and intuitively to develop forms that feel good to hold and good to use. The mug becomes a gateway into deeper ideas about form, intention and everyday ritual — all in a relaxed, supportive environment that encourages curiosity and experimentation.
Steve’s practice is deeply connected to wood-firing, often working with a hand-built brick kiln fuelled by timber from his own property, with firings lasting up to 50 hours. He’ll share stories from his practice, show his work, and chat all things kilns and wood-firing for those curious about this side of ceramics. Expect plenty of knowledge, a few good yarns, and lots of clay-covered hands.
If you’re craving a unique studio experience that’s playful, thoughtful and deeply satisfying, this masterclass is for you.
