CLARE UNGER RETURNS in November  —

After an incredible sold-out Masterclass earlier this year, we’re delighted to welcome Clare Unger back to the studio for another immersive two days of clay, textiles, stitching and mark-making.

2-Day Masterclass with Clare Unger
📅 14 & 15 November
🕤 9.30am – 3pm
💲 $430 - $470
📍 Chapman Parade, Faulconbridge | Blue Mountains NSW

Clare’s distinctive practice brings together ceramics and hand stitching, transforming the intimate language of textiles into clay.

Her work grew from inheriting a treasured collection of hand-stitched textiles made by generations of women in her family, including her mother. As an immigrant to Australia, these fabrics became a powerful connection across time and distance — linking Clare to the hands, stories and lives of the women who created them.

This connection inspired Clare to create her own stitched samplers, exploring stitching as a form of mark-making. From this, she developed her beautiful embossing technique, transferring the texture, rhythm and memory of stitches directly into clay.

This is a wonderful opportunity to spend two days learning directly from Clare and exploring how clay, cloth, memory and mark-making can come together in your own ceramic practice.

Our previous Clare Unger Masterclass sold out quickly, so early booking is recommended.

What you will learn:
This comprehensive workshop is designed for ceramic artists looking to expand their hand-building and slab-building skills and incorporate new decorative techniques into their work. It
has evolved from her love of textiles, hand-stitching and mark-making on clay and is an approach to hand building with intricately decorated slabs which has developed over many years through experimentation and refinement in her ceramic practice.

The emphasis is on learning a range of different skills that can continue to be built on by participants as they explore these methods in their own practices.

In this workshop students will learn how to:

  • develop design concepts
  • create a stitched sampler
  • make an embossing plate
  • apply complex surface treatments to clay slabs – including mono-printing and embossing
