Holding the Everyday: The Humble Mug Masterclass with Steve Williams

This May, the humble mug becomes the starting point for a deeper exploration of handbuilt form in a rare two-day ceramic masterclass with visiting potter Steve Williams (@stevewilliams3D).

Travelling to the Blue Mountains for this special workshop on May 30–31, 2026, Steve will guide participants through the making of mugs and functional objects that celebrate joy, touch, balance and everyday ritual. Working with a slower, intuitive approach, you’ll explore cutting, stretching and altering clay by hand, discovering how simple forms can hold both intention, form and quiet beauty.

Steve’s practice is deeply rooted in wood-firing, often using a hand-built brick kiln fuelled by timber from his own property, with firings lasting up to 50 hours and resulting in beautifully unpredictable surfaces, many a discussion will take place on wood firing and kiln building for those with an interest in this field.

Across two immersive days in the studio, he will share his knowledge of process and form, alongside a playful philosophy that invites experimentation and responsiveness to clay. This is a rare opportunity to learn from an internationally respected maker in an intimate Blue Mountains setting — bookings open early February, with places limited.
